Health 8

Health Education is a required course designed to help students gain health literacy.  Health Literacy is the capacity of individuals to obtain, interpret, and understand basic health information and services, and the competence to use such information and services in ways which enhance health.  Health Education teaches students the skills to lead a healthy lifestyle.

 

The skills to lead a healthy lifestyle are—accessing information, self-management, analyzing influences, interpersonal communication, decision-making, goal setting, and advocacy.  These skills are taught within the following topics:
  
           * Promotion of—Mental, Social, and Emotional Health, Personal and
                                    Sexual Well-Being,  
           * Prevention of—Alcohol, Tobacco, & Other Drugs, Disease, Violence &                                             Suicide
